Podcast Topics

  1. OSA and PLMD
  2. Sleep Disorders in Military Veterans
  3. ASV Algorithms & Central Sleep Apnea Management
  4. Beauty Sleep: How Skin Health and Sleep Are Connected
Objectives
  1. Evaluate persistent periodic limb movements in sleep (PLMS) in patients with well‑treated obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and identify when these movements meet criteria for periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), including appropriate diagnostic considerations and evidence‑based treatment strategies.
  2. Identify the unique sleep‑related challenges faced by military veterans and first responders—including the impacts of PTSD, TBI, and military culture—and apply culturally competent, evidence‑informed approaches to assessing insomnia, REM behavior disorder, nightmares, and sleep‑disordered breathing in this population.
  3. Interpret current evidence-based recommendations for central sleep apnea management—including the appropriate use of CPAP, BPAP with backup rates, adaptive servo‑ventilation (ASV), supplemental oxygen, acetazolamide, and emerging therapies—and apply updated AASM guideline principles to make safe, clinically informed treatment decisions, particularly in patients with reduced ejection fraction or treatment‑emergent central sleep apnea.
  4. Explain the bidirectional relationship between sleep and skin health—including how sleep influences skin physiology, aging, and inflammatory conditions—and apply evidence‑based strategies to recognize and manage sleep‑related dermatologic concerns such as itch‑scratch cycles, CPAP‑associated skin issues, and sleep disruption in chronic skin disease.
