  • Objectives
This course reviews common side effects of Positive Airway Pressure (PAP therapy) and options to address these side effects through changes to PAP machine settings or other interventions. It includes knowledge checks to confirm what you have learned and three patient scenarios for you to explore how your decisions affect patients in a clinical setting.
By the end of this module, the learner should be able to:
  • Identify and troubleshoot common causes of air leak in PAP therapy, including mask fit issues, mouth breathing, and pressure-related leaks
  • Interpret PAP device data reports, including leak measurements and usage patterns, to guide clinical decision-making
  • Apply techniques to address common patient complaints, such as dryness, discomfort, claustrophobia, and aerophagia
  • Evaluate and adjust PAP settings and comfort features (e.g., ramp, EPR) based on patient tolerance and therapy effectiveness
  • Recommend appropriate interventions for mask discomfort, including equipment alternatives and comfort accessories
  • Develop a patient-centered approach to PAP education, acclimatization, and follow-up care to improve adherence and outcomes
