AI in Sleep Medicine: Navigating Security & Privacy Concerns
Description

In this interdisciplinary webinar, a panel discussion led by leading experts in the field of sleep medicine, internet security, and law will navigate privacy concerns in AI and Sleep Technology followed by audience Q & A with panelists. Participants will be invited to contribute ideas to drive a discussion of safe, secure, fair and equitable pathways to the use of AI in Sleep medicine.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 
  • Define the security and privacy concerns posed by the use of artificial intelligence.
  • Navigate the potential security threats posed by A.I. in order to protect patient confidentiality.
Presenters
Mark Allison, PhD

Dr Allison earned his PhD in Computer Science from Florida International University, specializing in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. He completed his sabbatical year at Carnegie Melon’s Robotic Institute conducting research in Human – AI Interaction. His research interest spans model-driven software engineering, reinforcement machine learning, and autonomous robotic systems, with focused work in human – AI teaming. This work has been supported by competitive awards from the National Science Foundation and Google.

Ramesh Sachdeva, MD, PhD, MBA, JD

Dr. Sachdeva is a practicing Sleep and pediatric critical care physician, and has served in the national role as Medical Director for quality initiatives for the American Academy of Pediatrics. He obtained JD cum laude from Marquette University Law School and has completed the Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare certificate program from MIT Sloan School of Management. He has served as faculty in the Center for Ethics, Medicine and Public Policy at Baylor College of Medicine and as adjunct faculty in law at Marquette University Law School. Dr. Sachdeva has been funded for several national grants related to quality, outcomes and use of technology to improve patient care. He has a specific interest in the intersection of Artificial Intelligence in medicine, healthcare quality, and law. He is currently a member of the Artificial Intelligence in Sleep Medicine Committee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Brian Balow, JD

Mr. Balowpractices commercial and business law, with a heavy focus ontechnology and intellectual property. Since the early 2000s he has undertaken significant work in privacy, data security andcyberlaw/cybersecurity, with substantial focus in the areas of health informationtechnology and telemedicine. Mr. Balow has presented at numerous national healthcare conferences on privacy and data security legal and regulatory issues and has published severalarticles and treatise contributions on these matters. Mr. Balow is a cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law and spent nearly 25 years practicing with large national law firms.
