Pdf Summary
Chronic sleep restriction can have negative effects on cognition and physiology. It can lead to attention lapses, reduced cognitive function, and mood changes. Recent studies show that sleep restriction below 7 hours per night can cause cognitive dysfunction similar to total sleep deprivation. Individual response to sleep restriction may be related to neurobiological changes. Sleep restriction can also affect endocrine functions and inflammatory responses.

In a case study, a patient with obstructive sleep apnea had difficulty using CPAP therapy due to anxiety. A different mask interface was prescribed, resulting in improved adherence and symptom relief.
