Well, good morning, and thank you for joining us for the ASM's new member orientation. My name is Nicole Casas, and I'm the membership program specialist. If you need any assistance during the webinar, please send us a chat at any time, and the membership team will get back to you. Also feel free to reach out to me directly after today's webinar. A recording will be available in the next week or so. Today we'll be covering some background on the AASM, an overview of resources and programs, how to navigate your member portal, next steps for you, and then we'll end with a Q&A. If anyone has any questions during the presentation, please add them in the Q&A box on the bottom of your screen. Let's get started. And now a brief message from the AASM president, Dr. Jennifer Martin. Thank you for becoming a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and welcome to our community. I am the current president of the AASM, an organization that has benefited my career for decades. As a psychologist practicing in an accredited sleep disorder center, I rely on the AASM for up-to-date information on clinical practice. I also look to the AASM for evidence-based recommendations to inform my work. I regularly read our outstanding journal, the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, to uncover the newest innovations and the best science. The AASM is my community, and our goal is to make you feel welcome, appreciated, and valued. We want to provide you with the resources you need to be the best at what you do, take care of patients with sleep disorders. Today you will hear of the many benefits we offer our members, and I know you will find resources you never expected. We encourage you to take advantage of all the AASM has to offer and get involved. Take a look at the Engage platform, post a comment, participate in a discussion, and get to know your colleagues. Join us at one of our annual conferences, Sleep Medicine Trends, or the Annual Sleep Conference. And if you see me there, please come by and say hello. Welcome to the AASM. I hope you have a wonderful year. And thank you, Dr. Martin, for that short video. The AASM is the only society dedicated exclusively to the medical subspecialty of sleep medicine. Our mission is to advance sleep care and enhance sleep health to improve lives. In 2019, the AASM Board of Directors developed a strategic plan to guide AASM activities for the next three to five years. This process produced four main goals, public awareness to promote greater public recognition that sleep is essential to health, technology innovation to positively influence the impact of technology on patients and the sleep team, workforce development to expand the sleep team workforce of the future to improve access to high quality sleep care, and advocacy to improve patient care to positively influence clinical practice for providers and their patients. The AASM has a combined membership of 11,000 accredited member sleep centers and individual members, including physicians, researchers, and other allied health care professionals. Physicians can make the majority of membership, but over the years, we've seen growth in APPs and other team members. Members come from all over the world, but mostly the United States. We are committed to maintaining an inclusive space for everyone and to build a strong community. We are devoted to providing a welcoming environment in which diverse opinions, experiences, and viewpoints are appreciated, and every individual feels a sense of belonging. You can learn more about our diversity and equity and inclusion initiatives and resources on our website under the about page. The AASM provides a wide variety of clinical resources for sleep medicine services to help support your needs, found under the clinical resources tab on the AASM website. These include practice standards, coding and reimbursement resources, links to your two journal subscriptions, the AASM scoring manual, which was recently updated on February 15th, and is available in your My Learning section of your AASM account, the Sleep Clinical Data Registry, also known as Sleep CDR, provider fact sheets, and even more items that aren't listed on this slide. If you think you're not getting any email notifications for any of the listed publications, please visit your AASM account and then preferences tab. There you can edit your communication preferences. Take your career further with our premier professional development programs. We offer training in person and virtually. The Sleep Medicine Trends just passed last week, was on the 17th through the 19th in Austin, Texas. The on-demand course will be available in a few weeks in the AASM store. The AASM Fellow Boot Camp is designed for residents and physicians who have matched into a sleep medicine fellowship program. This program is two half-day courses that will be held live at the sleep meeting. I want to highlight a few more resources and programs that are helpful for most of our members. The 2018 AASM Sleep Physician and Advanced Practice Provider Compensation Survey is the largest national salary and compensation survey of sleep physicians and advanced practice providers. With case study of the month, you will review the patient's medical record, differentiate, diagnose, and test results. When you are finished with your review, select the final diagnosis button to test your skills. It typically takes 5-10 minutes. The AASM Career Center allows you to search for open positions and find resource articles and coaching. A key benefit for members is that you can access job posting 10 days before they are available to the public. Then Talking Sleep is an AASM podcast to help you keep up on the latest developments in the practice of clinical sleep medicine. We also offer programs to assist with your development and distinction. The mentor program platform can be found within the AASM Engage online community website. And finally, the AASM Fellow Status recognizes outstanding contributions in sleep medicine and dedicated membership in the AASM. Applications are open on an annual review schedule. To be eligible, you must maintain active membership for 5 consecutive years in the full or team member category. While you can connect to members in person at events, we have made it easy for you to make connections with others in your online community. AASM Engage. On this platform, you can search and add other members through the member directory, join community groups that interest you, search and apply for volunteer opportunities, or a mentor or mentee. All members are added to the members forum, which is a central spot for the conversations. Please turn on notification emails to see the discussions happening. Sleep Team Assemblies are online groups for non-physicians and non-dominant members. It includes Advanced Practice Provider Assembly, the Dental Assembly, Early Career Physician Assembly, International Assembly, Sleep Psychologist Assembly, and the Sleep Technologist Respiratory Therapist Assembly. You are put into these groups automatically based on your professional role. There are other dedicated peer community groups you can join on your own, such as the Choose Sleep Forum for Students and Residents, the Board Review Group, Pediatric Sleep Professionals, Sleep and Circadian Science Researchers, and also Sleep Team Assemblies. The AASM relies on the involvement of members who volunteer their time and expertise to help improve health care delivery, develop resources for underserved populations, and make an impact for our local community and beyond. Throughout the year, the AASM offers a variety of opportunities for members to become involved on a committee or task force. Our call for volunteer cycle typically opens in February each year, and this year it will open on February 24th through March 10th. We encourage you all to apply if you are looking to get more involved. You can view and apply to all open volunteer opportunities on AASM Engage. And now this is a tutorial that will demonstrate your AASM account login and member portal. In this brief video, we will review logging into your AASM member portal and My Account page. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine switched to a new membership portal. Anyone logging into the account for the first time after November 8th, 2022 will have to reset their password. Once you've logged in successfully, you are greeted with a member experience tutorial. Because we only have a little bit more time, we can never cover it all. So here's a recap and highlight of resources, tools, and information available to you now that you are a member. Just use the search icon at the top of your ASM website to find any program or resource that you may need. So what's your next step? We encourage you to log in and make sure your contact information is accurate. Next, the ASM Engage is invaluable. You start participating in discussions right away or find help to pressing questions you have in your day-to-day. Registration for the annual sleep meeting is open now. Take advantage of the early breaks before March 5th. Finally, if you're really looking to get plugged in, volunteer. The call for volunteer applications open on February 24th. Now, we got through that very quickly. At this time, we'll cover membership-related questions. If anyone has anything, please submit your questions now in the Q&A box at the bottom of your screen. I'll address them in the order that they are received. So someone asked, where do we go to see volunteer opportunities again? So that's actually in the AASM Engage platform. That's engage.aasm.org to get there directly. And then once again, this recording will be available. And I would recommend searching tutorials on the AASM website, and you'll get a copy of the tutorial that was provided on today's webinar. And if you haven't done so already, logging in, I would recommend doing the forgot password if you have any problems, or feel free to reach out to the membership department directly, and we can reset your password or give you one over the phone. I see a question about JCSM emails. You are getting JCSM emails directly to your email. However, if you are not opted into them, you might want to go ahead and check your preference tab on your AASM account and enable that. Also check your spam. Of course, if there's continuing issues with this, just give me a call directly, and I'll provide my phone number, and we'll get this fixed for you. And that goes along with any other email from case study of the month to journal sleep, any other notifications, you're able to access that in your preference tab on your My Account page. All right, I think we'll wrap up then. Thank you again for joining us today. If you have any ideas, comments, or questions, please contact membership by email and membership at ASM.org or by phone. And I hope you all have a great rest of your day. Thank you so much for joining.
